In 2018, I was 115 kg, type 2 diabetic, on insulin, and out of breath after a single flight of stairs. The endocrinologist told me what most Indian doctors tell their patients: this is now your life. Manage it. Add medication as needed. Make your peace.
I refused. Not out of pride — out of obligation. I had served thirty years in the Army, and I knew that "manage it forever" was a phrase invented by people who had given up. So I did what soldiers do. I studied the enemy.
The enemy turned out to be everywhere — in our plates, our schedules, our chairs, our chronic stress, our sleep debt. But it was also defeatable. I rebuilt my metabolism through what later became the 5-Finger Punch: nutrition, movement, strength, mind, and rest. Within nine months I was off all medication. Within eighteen, I was 75 kg. Within three years, I had taught the same method to my first 1,000 students.

BBDO is not a low-carb cult. We do not ban rice, rotis, dal, ghee, or even the occasional sweet. We rebuild the plate around three rules — half vegetables, a quarter protein, a quarter complex carb — and one eating order: salad first, protein second, carbohydrate last.
The result is a plate that is unmistakably Indian — and a glucose curve that looks like someone half your age. Most members see a 12–18 mg/dL drop in fasting glucose within seven days of applying the rule to a single meal.
- Breakfast: soaked oats with chia, walnuts and cinnamon — or moong cheela with curd.
- Lunch: a half-quarter-quarter thali with brown rice or millets.
- Snack: handful of nuts, or sprouts with lemon and chaat masala.
- Dinner: protein-led — fish, chicken, paneer, eggs — with sabzi and one phulka.
- After dinner: 10-minute walk. Lights out by 10:30.
